On August 28, smart brand’s new pure electric medium-sized SUV – smart Spirit #5(picture) was officially released. As the brand’s largest current model, smart Spirit #5 supports 800 volts of pure electric high voltage platform, equipped with AR enhanced head-up display (AR-HUD), 13-inch OLED dual screen and other configurations. The new car will be unveiled to the public at the 2024 Chengdu International Auto Show on August 30, and is scheduled to be launched and delivered in China within 2024.
The futuristic design highlights the concept of outdoor travel
The smart Spirit #5 was designed by Mercedes-Benz’s global design team and continues the concept’s “square box” SUV silhouette. The basic version of the new car canceled the all-terrain tires, off-road front guards, roof spotlights and other elements on the off-road concept car, but provided an “outdoor adventure package”, including the X-type painted roof platform, side ladder, chassis safety armor, etc., showing the design concept suitable for outdoor exploration.
In terms of exterior details, the smart Spirit #5 retains design elements similar to the concept car, such as the dot-through front and rear LED lights, roof rack, and hidden door handles. Optional LiDAR and tow hooks further enhance the vehicle’s functionality.
Intelligent interior and leading configuration
In terms of interior, the smart Spirit #5 has a new design, with 25.6-inch AR-HUD, 10.3-inch LCD meter and 13-inch OLED 2.5K central control dual screen, supporting the main and passenger partition display function. The smart Pilot Assist 3.0 intelligent driving system and the 20-speaker Sennheiser sound system are also integrated into the vehicle to enhance the driving experience and entertainment.
The car is equipped with AMD V2000 chip and smart OS 2.0 vehicle system, and has a built-in “Bean bag AI large model” developed by Bytedance, making it the first production car in the world to apply this model. The voice recognition function in the car is very powerful, can understand natural language, including air conditioning control, navigation and other operations.
The seats are leather-clad, with power adjustment for the main and passenger seats, and the rear seats support split reclining, with ample storage space and Type-C charging ports.
Powerful power and diverse driving modes
smart Spirit #5 is based on an 800-volt pure high voltage platform and supports ultra-fast charging mode, which can charge from 10% to 80% in 15 minutes. The new car offers eight driving modes, including Eco, Comfort and Sport, as well as sand, snow, mud, rock and adaptive all-terrain modes. It has a maximum wading depth of 500 mm and a maximum climbing capacity of 100%.
In terms of power, the new car provides two versions of single motor and double motor, the maximum power of single motor version is 267 kW; The maximum power of the motor before and after the dual motor version is 165 kW and 267 kW respectively. In terms of battery, there are 76 KWH and 100.01 KWH two capacities, and the range can reach 570 km, 660 km, 670 km, 720 km and 740 km according to different configurations.
Market competition and future outlook
As the new flagship model of the smart brand, the smart Spirit #5 is positioned as a pure electric mid-size SUV and is expected to be priced higher than the smart Spirit #1 on sale. From the perspective of size and positioning, its market competitors include Tesla Model Y, Q Jie M5 pure electric, Xiaopeng G6, BMW iX3 and so on. Whether smart #5 can win market recognition with its innovative design and rich configuration remains to be verified by market performance.
