South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Co. ‘s cumulative sales could top 100 million vehicles this month, according to industry forecasts released Thursday.

According to the company’s data, Hyundai’s cumulative vehicle sales from 1968 through the end of July were 99.66 million. Among them, 24.36 million units were sold in South Korea and 75.3 million units were sold overseas.

The company released preliminary figures for August showing sales of 332,963 vehicles for the month. If the August figures are officially confirmed, the cumulative sales through the end of August would be about 99.99 million units.

This means that Hyundai Motor will sell another 340,000 vehicles this month, and its cumulative sales will reach 100 million units.

Official sales figures are generally released a month later each month, so if Hyundai sold more than 100 million vehicles in September, the official sales figures are expected to be released in October.

For Hyundai, topping 100 million cumulative sales would be a major milestone, achieved 56 years after the company first produced the Cortina compact sedan at its Ulsan plant in 1968 and began selling it.
