This is Volkswagen’s second price increase after it raised gasoline and diesel models last spring, with price increases ranging from 2.1 percent to 4.2 percent, depending on the model, with the new pricing catalog coming into effect on Sept. 12, 2024.
The price increase affects almost all the 2025 internal combustion engine models, except the Polo small hatchback. The suggested retail price of the Taigo crossover has risen from a minimum of 490 euros ($541) to 2,490 euros ($2,790) for the flagship Touareg SUV.
The model most affected by the price change was the Volkswagen Golf compact hatchback, which increased in price by €1,150 ($1,270), or 4.2%. The deadline for customers to place orders at current prices is September 11, as the new catalog will be effective on September 12.
According to German media reports, the news was shared in a letter to local Volkswagen dealers, and the ID series electric cars were not mentioned because they are sold under different dealer models. However, potential changes in EV pricing in the future cannot be ruled out.
In addition to increasing the price of internal combustion engine models, Volkswagen has also reportedly raised the suggested retail price of the optional configuration. Examples include sunroofs, spare tires, upgraded infotainment systems, head-up displays, and other optional kits and services.
Vw has not officially stated the reason for its price catalog update, but it may have something to do with the company’s current market environment. Just a few months ago, Achim Scheibler, chairman and spokesman for Volkswagen Germany, said in an interview with a German magazine that price increases were unnecessary, but the reality had reached the point where they had to be raised.
This is not the first time VW has raised prices on its internal combustion engine-powered models in Germany. A similar increase was implemented in the spring of 2023, resulting in more affordable VW models.
